Qubits to qudits: Using quantum mechanics to transmit information more securely

Leveraging principles of quantum mechanics to securely transmit messages has promised a revolution in encryption, keeping sensitive information secure. Now, a collaborative team of researchers led by the School of Engineering and Applied Science’s Liang Feng and Ph.D. candidate Yichi Zhang has developed a system that enables more stable, robust, high-efficiency, and long-range quantum communication, paving the way for practical, high-dimensional quantum networks.

New Quantum Sensing Technology Reveals Sub-Atomic Signals

Engineers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science (Penn Engineering) have utilized quantum sensors to realize a groundbreaking variation of nuclear quadrupolar resonance (NQR) spectroscopy, a technique traditionally used to detect drugs and explosives or analyze pharmaceuticals.

QUIEST Center funds new quantum research projects with seed grants

Earlier this year the QUIEST Center announced its first call for seed project proposals to fund and foster cutting-edge quantum research collaborations that address the Center’s priority research areas. The Penn Forum on Quantum Systems (FoQuS) Hosts International Experts in Quantum Research

QUIEST hosted its first symposium, The Penn Forum on Quantum Systems (FoQuS), this past May, which reached over 150 attendees and included keynote speakers from across the country and globe. The forum’s goals were to connect researchers, raise awareness about regional, national and international efforts in quantum engineering and help guide research and education priorities for the QUIEST Center.
