Biography:
Dr. Nathan Bishop is the Director of the Maryland Institute for Quantum Applications (MIQA) at the University of Maryland’s Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), focusing on quantum R&D for intelligence and security applications, including supporting the DARPA Quantum Benchmarking Initiative.
Dr. Bishop has extensive experience in quantum computing hardware and strategic research leadership across industry, national laboratories, and government. He most recently served as a Principal Engineer at Intel Corporation, where he led quantum computing hardware theory and modeling efforts and helped define technical roadmaps for future quantum systems.
Prior to his work at Intel Corporation, Dr. Bishop held senior technical leadership roles where he managed complex quantum research portfolios, guided multi-institutional collaborations, and advised government stakeholders on quantum information science strategy and investment.
Dr. Bishop is recognized for his ability to translate foundational quantum science into requirements for engineered systems, build and lead high-performing technical teams, and align research programs with mission-driven requirements across academia, industry, and government.
